Philip Spayd is a founding director of Global Trade Systems and a Research Affiliate, Center for Transportation and Logistics, MIT. GTS provides consulting services in port and supply chain security, and advises emerging firms on developing the homeland security markets for their products and services. Mr. Spayd travels internationally advising private and public sector clients on gaining efficiency from investments in security. He writes widely on issues of supply chain management and security. Prior to joining Global Trade Systems in January, 2004, Philip W. Spayd served for twenty five years with the US Customs Service and Department of Homeland Security, working in the US and representing US Customs globally. He was a founding director of Operations Safe Commerce, the first public-private partnership to develop mechanisms to enhance the security of international supply chains. In 1998 Mr. Spayd was stationed in Sofia, Bulgaria serving as the U.S. Advisor to the Bulgarian Government on Counter-Proliferation.
